The proposed Dorland Wind Energy Facility is located in an area adjacent to an existing 230kV transmission line in the geographic Township of South Fredericksburgh within the Town of Greater Napanee in the County of Lennox and Addington. The proposed project area will be spread over approximately 10,000 hectares of privately owned land. Gilead is in the process of optioning the land from interested land owners in the area. Wind monitoring in the project area has been ongoing since 2008 and the wind data indicates potential for development of a 40-80 MW of wind project.

Project Overview

Wind Resource: One test tower was installed in 2008 and three LiDAR units have been deployed at strategic locations to supplement the data from the test tower. The results of this combined data collection will be used to model appropriate turbine locations in conjunction with environmental and engineering assessments of the site. Gilead will continue to collect wind data and conduct detailed wind resource assessment in the coming years which will provide information on capacity, long term projections and potential electricity generation.

Renewable Energy Approval: Environmental Assessment as required by the Ministry of the Environment for obtaining Renewable Energy Approval is in progress and will continue for two years. Community consultation, aboriginal community consultation and stakeholder engagement activities will meet or exceed the regulatory requirements.

Transmission options: Project will be connected to the 230kV Hydro One transmission line in the vicinity of the project.
